Payroll Changes Coming in 2027

What’s changing, who’s affected, and how to prepare for the move to Oracle Cloud

As part of True Blue Fusion, 91´óÉñ is modernizing how payroll is processed by moving to Oracle Cloud. Beginning in January 2027, the way employees record their time and receive their pay will change. This page explains what’s changing, who is affected, and what you can do to prepare.

What’s Changing?

Beginning January 2027, Payroll will be processed in Oracle Cloud, replacing Banner. Classified staff, hourly employees, graduate assistants, and student workers will move from a monthly to a biweekly pay schedule. Salaried employees will continue to be paid monthly. Payroll will be processed in Oracle Cloud, replacing Banner.

Your pay rate is not changing. Your annual salary or hourly rate stays the same. Only the timing and frequency of pay change for affected employees.

Who Is Affected?

Employee Type Pay Schedule Beginning January 2027
Classified Staff Biweekly
Hourly Employees Biweekly
Graduate Assistants and Student Employees Biweekly
Administrative Staff Monthly (no change)
Faculty (9 and 10 month) Monthly (no change)
Administrative Faculty Monthly (no change)

What This Means for You

More frequent paychecks. Affected employees will be paid every two weeks — 26 paychecks a year instead of 12.

Simplified time entry for hourly employees. Time worked is entered directly in Oracle Cloud and routed to supervisors for approval on a bi-weekly frequency.

Self-service access for all faculty and staff. View pay slips, tax forms, and direct deposit information at any time through Oracle Cloud Employee Self-Service.

Understanding Biweekly Pay

Biweekly employees are paid every two weeks. Each pay period covers a 14-day cycle that runs Sunday through Saturday. Because pay is distributed across 26 pay periods instead of 12, individual paychecks will generally be smaller than a monthly paycheck. However, overall pay rates will not change.

Each pay period, employees will:

  1. Enter time worked in Oracle Cloud.
  2. Submit timecards by the required deadline (bi-weekly).
  3. If the timecard is above the thresholds noted below, the timecard will be routed to supervisors for approval. All timecards at or below the thresholds will be auto approved and sent to payroll:
    • above 75 hours for Staff
    • above 29 hours for Students
  4. Receive payment on the scheduled pay date.

Additional pay schedules and the full 2027 payroll calendar will be published before go-live.

Payroll Transition Timeline

The first Oracle biweekly pay period begins December 20, 2026, and ends January 2, 2027.

*Because the first pay period overlaps the university holiday closure, submission and approval deadlines fall earlier than usual. These dates are still being finalized, and detailed guidance will be provided before go-live.

How Will This Impact You?

Direct Deposit

All employees will be asked to review their direct deposit information when they first log in to Oracle Cloud. Employees who use a fixed-dollar direct deposit allocation (for example, a set amount into savings each pay period) may need to update those settings for the biweekly schedule. Oracle Cloud supports both percentage-based and fixed-dollar distributions.

Benefits Deductions

Benefit deductions are expected to occur once per month for all employees. For biweekly employees, the full monthly premium will be deducted from the second biweekly paycheck of the month, so the second paycheck would be noticeably smaller than the first.

Time Entry and Approval

Employees moving to biweekly pay will submit a timecard for each pay period, and supervisors will review and approve those timecards before payroll is processed. Meeting time entry and approval deadlines is essential to ensure employees are paid on time. Detailed approval schedules and cutoff dates will be communicated before implementation.

Hiring Managers

New hires can only start at the beginning of a pay period.  So, no more than twice a month.
