The searches for new deans to lead the Jennings A. Jones听College of Business and the College of Mass Communication听began in early fall with the announced retirements of听Dean Jim Burton and Dean Roy Moore.
The searches, now in full swing, are remarkable in two听ways. First, in order to cast the broadest net possible to听find a dynamic, visionary, and collaborative dean for each听college, industry and community leaders are chairing the听searches. Paul W. Martin Jr., chief managing member of听Clarity Resources, is chairing the search for a new dean in听business; Peter Fisher , vice president and general manager听of the Grand Ole Opry, is chairing the mass communication听search.
Second, the University has hired a private executive search听firm, funded by private dollars. Parker Executive Search is听actively soliciting nominations from academic and industry听circles. The positions are being advertised nationally and听internationally. When candidates are selected, the search听committees, comprised of faculty, students, staff, and community听representatives, will begin reviewing them. The goal听is to have new deans selected by the beginning of April and听for them to assume their posts by July 1, 2013.
